KE-Burgmann Expansion Joints

Expansion joints are vital components in most industrial plants. They are installed as flexible connections in duct and pipe systems to prevent damage caused by variations in temperature, pressure or mechanical stress due to movement or vibration.

Fabric Expansion Joints
Flexible single-layer joints for less complicated applications.

Very complex multi-layer constructions for high temperature applications up to 1400 degrees C (2552 degrees F).

Also a full range of Combine-X® expansion joints specially designed for gas turbine and combined cycle applications. Fluoroelastomer (FKM) and fluoropolymer (PTFE) expansion joints for use in FGD duct systems or where extremely aggressive media occur. These Fluachem® type expansion joints are capable of withstanding continuous temperatures of up to 300 degrees C (572 degrees F), and brief temperature loads of up to 370 degrees C (698 degrees F). Flex-Gen® 2000 - a new generation of PTFE expansion joints for flue gas ducts in power stations. Advanced laminates for light-weight and durable performance

Rubber Expansion Joints
Rubber expansion joints provide a proven and flexible solution to accommodate many types of movements and requirements of industrial plant and equipment. They are used in all systems transporting fluids, slurries or gases under pressure, at ambient pressure or under vacuum over a wide range of temperatures. KE-MASTERFLEX® rubber expansion joints are flexible connectors made from natural or synthetic elastomers (Neoprene, EEPDM, Nitrile, Hypalon, FKM, Buthyl) in which special fabrics are embedded to provide physical reinforcement. They are available in two types:D-Flex types:

  • A high quality standard rubber expansion joint of spherically moulded design, available in dimensions ranging from DN20 to 750 mm and up to 16 bar working pressure.DFS-Flex types:
  • A high quality customised rubber expansion joint as handmade spool arch moulded design, available in dimensions ranging from DN50 mm to 2400 mm, and up to 10 bar working pressure.Other available configurations include:
  • Multiple arch design: two or more arches to accommodate large movements
  • Internal sleeve: protection against abrasion
  • PTFE lining design: an integral PTFE lining to provide resistance to chemicals
  • Tie rods, spherical washers, reinforcing rings etc.: to control expansions caused by pressure.

Metal Expansion Joints
Pipework and ducting systems in industrial environments can be damaged, stressed and fatigued to the point of catastrophic failure by variations in temperature or pressure, or by mechanical vibrations and movement, unless the effects of those instabilities are neutralised or eliminated at source. The most effective way of achieving this neutralisation is to install metal expansion joints at points in the system where such movements and stresses are generated. Metal expansion joints compensate for these movements and stresses and provide the flexibility that the pipe or duct system requires for its safe, long-term operation.
