VOICE COIL ACTUATION
Emerging industry trends demand compact, accurate, electric actuation for turbine fuel and steam control. Linear voice coil actuated valves provide these benefits for applications where high-precision rapid actuation is desired. Young & Franklin's patent-pending direct-acting Heat Dissipating Voice Coil Activated Valves maintain the same high quality as our well-built hydraulic actuators while providing enhanced reliability and controllability in a compact package with diagnostic capability from the control room.
Young & Franklin voice coil actuators involve a tubular wire coil located within a magnetic flux field provided by a stationary magnet. Electrical current is applied to the coil to produce a directional force that is proportional to the current input producing relative motion between the magnet and the coil. Young & Franklin harnessed the highly reliable voice coil technology while devising a patent-pending heat-dissipating voice coil activated valve design. This design extends the life of our voice coil actuated valves by improving the heat dissipating characteristics of the valve while protecting the electrical components from any heat generated by the coil.
Young & Franklin's voice coil actuators are fieldbus capable allowing for ease of installation in virtually any system requiring accurate electric control.

Advantages of using Voice Coil Actuated Valves
Several advantages to using voice coil actuated valves instead of conventional hydraulic control are outlined below:
- No contact between moving parts
- Symmetrical actuation
- Little or no hysteresis
- No backlash or positioning problems
- Reduced system costs
- Greater remote control
- Set parameters can be changed readily
- Smaller envelope: no additional servomotor, filter, manifolding and seals, trip relays or trip valves required
- No contamination issues
Applications
Young & Franklin voice coil actuated valves have on-board integrated electronics that communicate with the provided controller package to deliver precision and reliability for excellent low-pressure (12-700 psi) servo control, linkage positioning and fuel controls.
Our general-purpose 7-2000 Series splitter and low pressure servo valves provide the needed accuracy for your fuel controls. For inlet guide vane actuation or bleed valve control, look to our 7-5079 electronic controlled hydraulic servo actuators to exceed your expectations.
Our voice coil actuated valves are certified to UL/CSA standards as Class I, Division 1, Groups B, C and D and to various CENELEC/ATEX standards.
